World Flags of Popular Interest

Juneteenth is celebrated every year on June 19. The holiday celebrates the exact date (June 19, 1865) that the last enslaved people in America learned they were free. The Emancipation Proclamation was decreed  January 1, 1863, but in Texas, slavery continued for two and a half more years because enslaved people weren’t informed of their new status nor that the Civil War had ended and Congress had passed the 13th Amendment.
